Ukrainian police broke up a fraudulent crypto investment ring led by a 25-year-old IT specialist who had recruited more than 46 Ukrainian citizens to run it like a normal business: several offices across Kyiv and the surrounding region, developers keeping the fake platforms online despite blocking attempts, and staff answering phones and handling security. The operation moved up to $1 million a month, with victims identified in more than 20 countries.
The fraudulent sites used hidden wallet-draining software that activated once a victim approved what looked like a small test transaction. To keep the illusion going, operators manually created fake transactions and adjusted users' balances by hand to make it look like their investments kept growing. During sign-up, they also collected passport details, phone numbers, emails and passwords, so victims' personal data got stolen too. The investigation included 34 searches of homes, offices and vehicles, and 62 victims have been confirmed so far.
