Fnalysis Fnalysis. Thief Wanted

A website running unpatched PHP dared the internet to steal $2,000 in Bitcoin, and the “thief” walked away with the wrong key

The “Steal My Bitcoin” site was built to show that the PHP2Shell flaw wasn’t realistically exploitable: it left a server unpatched and hid the key to a wallet holding about $2,000 in Bitcoin. According to Cointelegraph, it had gone 25 hours without being hacked, though it was periodically knocked offline by traffic and probing attempts.

On October 25, a researcher who goes by KillaBoi published that he had pulled a private key from the server. But that key does not derive the prize address, a discrepancy he says the challenge creator acknowledged by email. Cyber Press therefore concludes there is proof he obtained a key, not that he stole the Bitcoin.
