A New Hampshire man stole the rescue truck firefighters were using to put out his own house fire, and rammed another truck on his way out

Nestor Roman II, 30, watched his home in Dalton, New Hampshire go up in flames just before 4 a.m. on August 25, 2026. While Whitefield Fire & Rescue crews battled the blaze, Roman jumped into one of the rescue vehicles and took off, not before slamming into another fire engine actively fighting the fire, driving over several water supply lines, and narrowly missing three firefighters. State troopers, already en route, found him a couple of miles up the road.

He lost the house, and then the truck too: reckless conduct, felony theft, burglary, and resisting arrest all on the charge sheet.
