A passenger was caught at Turin airport with the dried head of an endangered crocodile hidden in his luggage, wrapped in ordinary gift wrap

Italy's financial police discovered the dried head of a protected crocodile in a passenger's luggage on September 8, 2026, at Turin's Caselle airport, as he arrived from Miami by way of Istanbul. According to the official statement, the reptile's head had been dried and wrapped in ordinary wrapping paper, which was apparently enough to slip past security at the airport of departure without raising suspicion.
