On Sunday, August 30, 2026, 1,969 people gathered at Recess bar in Chicago to simultaneously down a shot of Jeppson's Malört, a wormwood-based liquor that's been distilled in the area since the 1930s and that Chicagoans traditionally use to prank tourists by getting them to try it without warning. One attendee described the flavor as "a mixture of vomit and sweat." The event, billed as "a bad decision for a good cause," raised funds for Ravenswood Community Services.
