A viral rumor claimed the Trump family was about to launch a new cryptocurrency ("Truth Coin") on Robinhood Chain that same weekend
Between August 21 and 23, 2026, accounts like @WhaleScan announced on X that a Trump family coin launch on Robinhood Chain was imminent, pointing to a wallet that had received 300 ETH and created two tokens under the name "Truth Coin" as proof. The speculation sent the TRUMP memecoin up 65% within hours, dragging PEPE, BONK and DOGE along for gains of 50% to 90% that week.
Why it's false: There was no launch: Eric Trump, Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, called the rumor a fraud on his official X account hours after it went viral -"No one is launching any kind of coin. If anyone is suggesting otherwise, it's a fraud"- and the account that had spread it publicly walked back the claim. The contract circulating as "proof" was labeled on the blockchain's own explorer as a placeholder ("Stub Token"), not any official Trump family project. It's the same pattern seen in 2024 with the "Restore the Republic" token, which was also inflated by false Eric Trump rumors before it collapsed.
