An AI-generated deepfake of MrBeast's face and voice promised to double any crypto you sent him
Videos and ads circulating on YouTube, TikTok, and social media show MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) announcing a "massive crypto giveaway": send bitcoin or ether to an address, and he'd instantly send back double. A woman in Guelph, Ontario, lost $14,000 after paying a supposed $250 "membership fee" and, following a phone call from someone posing as MrBeast himself, depositing another $5,000 into a crypto wallet.
Why it's false: It's a deepfake: MrBeast has never promoted any crypto giveaway that requires sending money first. His team and Canadian police confirmed the case as fraud after the victim reported it, as documented by CBC News. MrBeast never asks anyone to pay to receive a prize, never DMs winners privately, and his real giveaways only happen in public videos on his official, verified channels.
