On August 17, 2026, a LinkedIn account called "Field Hollow" posted a teaser with a photo of a man being detained and a link to an article that closely mimicked the design of the CBC News website, complete with the byline of a real CBC reporter. The text claimed that Jim Balsillie, former CEO of BlackBerry, was encouraging people to invest in an AI-powered crypto platform with guaranteed returns.
Why it's false: Jim Balsillie has absolutely nothing to do with the platform: both he and CBC publicly debunked the article, which never ran on the network's real site. CBC itself warned that this kind of forgery, copying its design and signing with real reporters' names, is becoming more common on social media and eroding trust in legitimate outlets. As always: no public figure endorses investment platforms through LinkedIn ads.
