A video showed Nayib Bukele announcing a ban on Halloween in El Salvador

A video with more than 3 million views on TikTok shows the Salvadoran president saying that Halloween is banned in El Salvador. It has circulated online since at least October 2025 and returns every autumn, right before October 31.

Why it's false: It is a deepfake. The video uses a clip from the August 12, 2025 livestream in which Bukele inaugurated two bridges north of San Miguel, and in it he never mentions Halloween or any ban. The audio is fake: Sensity AI detected a 97.6% probability that the lips were artificially synced, and they do not match what is heard. There is no decree or official provision, the Presidency website says nothing, and Bukele has not addressed the topic on his X account. Lupa Media and Verificado MX rated it false, and AFP Factual had already debunked another version in November 2025.
